High Definition Printing (HDP)

Some id card printers print directly on the card. Many printers that are considered in the professional printing category now print with high definition printing.

The high definition printing process allows the full color id card image to be printed from the software through a print ribbon onto a clear HDP transfer film. The transfer film then contains a full, complete image of the card to be produced. The film is then fused to a PVC card through the heat and pressure of the printer’s heated rollers.

This capability provides additional card durability and provides the best color output on the completed card. The HDP capability is especially useful on smart cards, prox cards and matte finished PVC cards.
