LoCo

LoCo is the abbreviation for low coercivity. This term means the type of magnetic stripe that is found on a plastic id card.

There are two types of coercivity–high and low. The low coercivity cards are less expensive and are easier to encode. The magnetic stripe on these cards are brown in color rather than the black color of the HiCo cards. The cards will lose the information encoded into the card if exposed to various magnetic fields.

LoCo cards are often short term use cards. An example of this type of card may be a hotel room “key” used only for a day or two.
