Direct-To-Card (DTC) Printing

ID card printers print full color or single color images and text on PVC cards. A standard id card printer used a direct to card printing method to produce finished id badges.

Direct-to-card printing processes print images and data directly onto a plastic card that has a smooth, glossy surface. The images and data are transfered from the card design software into the printer. The printhead is heated in the correct format and burns the correct color amounts from the print ribbon on to the surface of the PVC card in the printer. Each color amount is burnt correctly so that blending of the colors occurs and the finished product looks like the realistic images designed in the badge software.
