Asure ID Software – Version 7

HID Global regularly updates their Asure ID Software version 7. We encourage users to keep up with these updates to take advantage of new features and prevent problems. The latest release of Asure ID can always be downloaded directly from HID. It is available as a free update for licensed users of Asure ID 2009, and for all earlier releases of Asure ID 7. Users of Asure ID 5 (all versions), should contact us for special upgrade pricing.

asure id softwareFor help installing the update and accessing new shortcuts and functionalities, Asure ID also regularly updates the Asure ID User Guide. It is also available as a free download directly from the HID Global website.

The most recent program updates target increased functionality and support for HID’s ever-expanding access-control systems.

Asure ID Software Recent Release Highlights:

  • Updates to the toolbar and application sidebar to more closely mirror the look and feel of recent Windows releases. This redesign makes learning and using Asure ID easier and more intuitive.
  • Enhancements to accommodate encoding of iClass SE proximity/access credentials.
  • Data-entry and management are enhanced, allowing users to save font sizes and font types for both table and record views, further increasing customization options.
  • Introduction of several keystroke enhancements  to simplify data entry, including the ability to use the “shift-key” to highlight multiple records at once for group or batch actions.
  • Beginning with Asure ID 7.7, the program retains the most recent photo location and cropped size. Users find this change makes it easier to edit photographs and quickly produce photo IDs.
  • Added a quick filter feature that allows users to specify the order of entries.

As a result of these updates, data-entry is smoother and the software allows for better management of databases and data records.

Most notably, as HID expands their ecosystem to include embedded and standalone iClass SE Encoders, they continue to update Asure ID, in part to facilitate access-control system integration. As of Asure ID release 7.7, users can take advantage of iClass SE Encoders, optionally embedded within Fargo ID printers. This includes enabling automatic registration of finished card data to compatible access-control programs.

Asure ID Software – Default User-ID & Password

Asure ID - Default User-ID & Password
A question we often receive in our customer support department is “What is the default user-ID & password for HID Global’s Asure ID card design and printing software?”

In order to access Asure ID, you must provide a user-ID & password each time you use the program. When it is first installed, a default user-ID & password combination for Asure ID is created.  It is best-practice to replace these default values with your own, secure user-ID & password. If you want to secure any personal identification data that appears on your ID-cards, this is particularly important.

In all but Asure ID’s entry-level Solo Edition, you can create separate user-IDs for an administrator user-ID and for non-administrator users. (Solo Edition does not support multiple user-IDs.)

If you have the Exchange Edition of Asure ID, you can also use Microsoft Active Directory / LDAP and implement single sign-on capabilities.

Asure ID Default User-ID & Password:

User Name*= admin
Password*= admin

(*You should input values exactly as they appear–they are case sensitive.)

SwiftID Card Software from HID Global

*** PLEASE NOTE ***

As of Q1 2021, the SwiftID feature of the Fargo Workbench Utility will no longer function, and HID/Fargo has discontinued support for this application. This is due to the end of support for the Adobe Flash application and development environment, which was required for SwiftID to function. Following Adobe’s decision, Microsoft opted to remove support for Adobe Flash from all supported versions of the Windows operating system. HID/Fargo has no current plans to develop a free alternative to Swift ID. Instead, they are recommending former users consider the Asure ID Solo Edition to meet their card design and printing needs. Asure ID Solo will allow for the importing of any prior card designs created in SwiftID, easing the transition to this alternative and widely used application.

Please feel free to contact Safe-Card ID Services for more information, or to obtain a license for the Asure ID Solo Edition software. Email: safecard@safecardid.com or phone: +1 704-535-5200, or +1 888.485.4696 toll-free.

SwiftID is an ID-card design program that comes free with new Fargo DTC1250e, Fargo DTC4250e, and Fargo DTC4500e printers. The software is a no-frills option for designing and printing basic cards. SwiftID is installed with the Fargo Workbench Utility program, which is included on the product CD/DVD packed with each printer. The Workbench Utility can also be downloaded for free directly from the HID/Fargo website.

SwiftID offers basic card-design and printing options for items such as visitor cards or loyalty cards. There is no database available with this application, meaning that it does not store card data after printing. Instead the program erases data when you begin a new card or exit the program. Therefore, we do not recommend SwiftID if you have to retain, recall and reprint cards.

SwiftID also relies on some features built into each printer’s firmware. As such, only one user or PC can access it at a time, a significant limitation for a network-connected printer. In these cases, users will have to develop a method to ensure only one user prints cards at a time. (Ethernet connectivity is optional on the DTC1250e, and standard on the DTC4250e and DTC4500e).

Prerequisites for use of SwiftID include use of Windows 7, 8.1 or 10 on the host PC, and an installed copy of the Fargo Workbench Utility. HID/Fargo’s technical support group handles support for both applications directly.

Additional Limitations:

In addition to the items mentioned above, SwiftID has a limited font selection available and no ability to print bar-codes. It also cannot encode mag-stripes or proximity access or smart cards. Clients with these additional requirements are advised to purchase Asure ID, a more advanced software offering from HID Global.

Tech Alert: Apple Users of cardPresso ID Badge Design & Print Software

The Problem

elcapitanWe have recently become aware of a technical issue that occurs when users of the cardPresso ID Badge Design & Print software upgrade their Apple computers to the latest edition of OS X (10.11 “El Capitan”). In this latest operating system release, Apple has updated and enhanced system security, particularly as it applies to the use of USB-attached peripherals and mass-storage devices.

Users of cardPresso will know that use of and access to that software is secured through the use of a USB “dongle”, which is required to authenticate and authorize use of the product. The new release of OS X prevents cardPresso from “seeing” the USB dongle, and therefore prevents use of the software in anything other than demonstration mode.

The Fix

cardpressoWhile the El Capitan release also affected scores of other software developers, cardPresso’s software engineers worked quickly to develop, test, and release an update that will address this issue for affected users. The updated version is available for free download on the cardPresso website (www.cardpresso.com), and can be directly installed onto your Mac device with no loss of data of functionality.

As always, we encourage our clients to call on our in-house experts at +1 888.485.4696, should they need further information or support with this issue and resolution.
